Murphy’s House is a top-down-perspective, task management game that explores the theme of Murphy’s Law: “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”  In this prototype, the player is tasked with managing and resolving disasters that pop up randomly throughout a household environment.  After the player clicks on a disaster, he/she is presented with a list of options to choose from on how to resolve the disaster.  One option is the best way, another the worst way, another a 50/50 chance, and the last option is a one-time-use, instant fix item that the player can buy with in-game points.  Players will have to choose the correct option to resolve each disaster, but they will have to do it in a timely manner because the disaster will spread if left unresolved.  The object of the game is to have the household as disaster-free as possible before time expires.  The safer the house in the end, the more points the player will receive.  This prototype was developed in four weeks as we explored the question: “How can Murphy’s Law become an integral part of the gameplay experience?”
